At MediaLab, we are always striving to improve content management solutions. Our recent collaboration with Social House at Defqon.1, one of the world's largest music festivals, represents an important advancement in how user-generated content (UGC) is collected, stored, and curated. This partnership has not only improved the festival experience for attendees but also showcased the capabilities of advanced technology in content management.
A practical approach to content management
When Social House approached us with their vision to create a platform for festival-goers to easily upload their photos and videos, we saw an excellent opportunity. They aimed to turn UGC into professionally produced after-movies, and we knew our platform could make this possible.
Using AI to your advantage
Our collaboration resulted in the development of a Smart Asset Management system, a content management platform that integrates AWS Rekognition. This AI-powered solution tags every piece of uploaded content with essential metadata such as time, location, emotions, and logos. For an event as large as Defqon.1, this capability was crucial. With over 10,000 pieces of content generated by festival-goers, SAM ensured that every image and video was well-organized and easily accessible.
Saving time and frustration
For Defqon.1, we mapped all 12 stages using GPS coordinates. This allowed the platform to categorize content based on where it was captured. Any photo or video taken within a specific stage's coordinates was automatically placed in the correct folder. This level of precision saved countless hours of manual sorting and improved the overall content curation process.
"Integrating AWS Rekognition into our platform has allowed us to automate content analysis," says Hans de Heus, CEO of MediaLab. "The collaboration with Social House has created new opportunities for both companies. We look forward to the future and the potential to improve how user-generated content is managed and utilized."
A successful test at Defqon.1
Defqon.1 was the first major test for this collaborative platform, and it met all expectations. The platform handled the influx of user-generated content smoothly. Each piece of content was analyzed and sorted accurately. This success has laid the foundation for further developments and improvements to the platform.
Looking ahead
With the success at Defqon.1, MediaLab and Social House are ready to bring this solution to more festivals, events, and organizations across various industries. Efficiently managing and curating user-generated content provides significant value, and we are eager to continue our work in this area.
