What file types are supported?

We are called MediaLab for a reason: our roots are in the media industry, specifically video. We have a dedicated transcoding farm and will process all uploaded videos to create a version that can be viewed online, without having to download it first.

In addition to video, we support most major media formats such as audio files and images for online viewing and playback. We also provide viewable versions of most Office documents such as Powerpoints and Word documents.

For all other file types, we fully support them for uploading, sharing etc, however we don’t provide online playback for these file types. For example, sharing a ZIP file using MediaLab is just as easy as a video, but of course the user will be required to download it before being able to browse it.

Regarding video, most of our clients are happy with the default formats we create (usually an MP4 h264 video with bitrate options between 500 kbit/s to 5 Mbit/s). However, we have a very flexible back-end and can create all sorts of formats on request. We have some clients that prefer to have an automatic MPEG-1 low resolution version for translation. Not a problem!

So if you have any particular needs when it comes to video transcoding, get in touch with us and let’s discuss how we can help you.

For automated workflows, we can also take this one step further and allow you to attach custom versions of your own to files you upload to MediaLab. This is a bit more technical, so not covered in this article, but drop us a line and we will happily talk you through this.
