Metadata & workflow integration issues
MediaLab automatically extracts technical metadata (e.g., EXIF, ID-3) and supports user-defined metadata templates. If metadata isn’t appearing correctly or workflows fail, the cause is often a missing configuration or mismatched setup in pull/push profiles.
EXIF Metadata Not Populating Fields
- MediaLab attempts to extract EXIF metadata from uploaded images.
- If fields are blank:
- Confirm the file is detected as a supported media type.
- Check whether the relevant metadata template field is mapped to EXIF values (e.g.,
ObjectName,Caption-Abstract). - Try re-uploading the file to trigger metadata extraction.
Metadata Templates Not Configured Properly
- Custom templates must be created for fields beyond title, description, and tags.
- If required fields are missing:
- Navigate to Settings → Metadata templates and confirm the correct template is assigned.
- Ensure dropdowns, dates, or timestamps are configured correctly.
- Check whether fields are marked as required — otherwise uploads may complete without metadata.
Pull/Push Profiles Not Matching Format/Folder IDs
- Automated workflows rely on consistent file and format matching.
- If uploads via FTP/S3/UDP don’t attach correctly:
- Verify Format only settings are applied correctly (e.g., Source vs. Broadcast MXF).
- Confirm filename base matches (extensions ignored).
- Check folder IDs or target paths — a mismatch will prevent files from attaching as expected.
- For regex-based filename matching, ensure the pattern is configured correctly or contact support to enable this feature.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive, consistent filenames to improve matching in automated workflows.
- Test pull/push profiles with small files before running large automated transfers.
- Regularly review metadata templates with your team to ensure fields align with current workflows.
- Keep a record of required fields to enforce completeness during upload.
